Search “can you play Incursion Red River solo” and the answers are a mess of half-truths, half the threads tell you it’s a co-op game, half say it’s brutal alone, and almost nobody actually answers the question a solo player is really asking, which is: will the game let me play the whole thing on my own, and will it be miserable when I do?

So here is the clean cut. Yes, Incursion Red River is fully soloable. It is a PvE-only extraction shooter set in modern-day Vietnam, there are no human enemies, no PvP, no other players hunting you. The squad of up to four is entirely optional. You can load in alone on every map, every task, including the new campaign, and never see another human. That is the headline and it is not in doubt.

The first myth to kill: it is not always-online for solo. This trips people up because most extraction shooters are server-locked. Incursion is not. The developers market it explicitly as an offline single-player and co-op PvE game, and owners on the Steam forums confirm you can run the solo side with no connection at all. Co-op obviously needs you online, you can’t host mates from a cave, but the solo loop and campaign run offline as of mid-2026. If you play on dodgy hotel wifi or just hate server queues, that matters.

Is PvP a thing? No, and that’s the whole point. Every enemy you fight is AI. Nobody extract-camps you, nobody third-parties your firefight, nobody one-taps you from a bush they paid for. For a solo player this removes the single most stressful variable in the genre. The flip side, and I’ll be honest, is there are no AI squadmates either. When you go solo, you go genuinely alone. There’s no Ready or Not–style commandable team to lean on. It’s you, your kit, and the jungle.

So how hard is it solo? Manageable, if you play like a ghost. The recurring word in the community is that solo is “100% playable” but the AI can punish you if you charge around like an elephant. Suppressed weapons, slow movement, using cover and picking gaps, that’s the loop that works. Crucially, the AI difficulty is fully tunable: you can dial enemy aggression, vision and accuracy at any point, and the 1.3 patch shipped an overhauled enemy AI system (RedFor) on top of that. If the lethality is cooking you, turn it down, there’s no shame in it, and no PvP balance to protect. I went deep on the spawn side in the max enemy count piece, which is the other lever solo players forget exists.

The new bit worth knowing: the campaign. Patch 1.3.0.0 (25 February 2026) was a big one. It added Act 1 of a planned three-act story campaign, 23 missions with proper voice work from BAFTA-winner Jane Perry, plus player levelling, Safehouse upgrades, an overhauled economy and a new Delta map. This is the first time the game has had real solo progression to chase rather than just raid-and-repeat. It’s still Early Access (out since April 2024, with the devs targeting a 3–4 year run), so treat it as a foundation, not a finished story.

The honest caveat on price and state. The base game is around £18 on Steam (£18.48 at full price, and frequently around 20% off in sales), with a Supporter Edition if you want to fund it. For that you’re getting an unfinished but genuinely solo-respecting extraction shooter. The short version. Yes, you can play Incursion Red River solo, fully, offline, with no PvP and no forced squad. The catch isn’t access, it’s solitude: there are no AI teammates, so it’s you versus tunable AI, and the new campaign finally gives solo players a proper reason to grind.
