GTA 6 pre-orders, the cover art, and everything we actually know

So it is finally happening. After two delays and what feels like a decade of grainy leaks, Rockstar has put a real date on GTA 6 pre-orders and shown us the official cover art at last. This is the closest thing to a starting gun we have had. Here is everything that is actually confirmed, everything that is still guesswork, and a proper look at the game itself while we wait.

The one date that matters: 25 June

Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI go live on 25 June 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S, across digital storefronts and at select retailers. That is straight from Rockstar, and it is the one hard date attached to all of this. Mark it, because that is the day the rest of the puzzle, prices and editions included, is expected to finally drop.

The release date itself has not moved. GTA 6 is still locked to Thursday 19 November 2026. That is the third date the game has carried, after the original autumn 2025 target slipped to May 2026 and then to this November. Rockstar has been clear it is not moving again, and Take-Two has reaffirmed it more than once. If you want the longer version of that saga, I went through it in GTA 6 is locked to November 19.

What we still do not know: the price

Here is the part everyone actually cares about, and the part nobody can answer yet. Rockstar has said nothing official about price or editions. Not the standard cost, not whether there is a deluxe or a collector’s edition, not how many versions there will be.

The internet, of course, is already full of it. You will see “79.99 standard” stated like gospel, talk of a collector’s edition north of a hundred, and a leak claiming six different editions. Treat every bit of that as rumour until Rockstar’s own store page is live. I am not going to quote you a number I cannot stand behind, and neither should anyone else. The honest answer is simple: we find out on or around 25 June. A PC version, for what it is worth, is not part of the launch and has no confirmed date. Console first, as it always is with Rockstar.

The cover art: pure Vice City

The cover is everything you would want it to be. It is the classic GTA collage, that grid of little painted vignettes, and it is dripping in Vice City. There is the helicopter tucked into the top left corner, a tradition Rockstar has kept on every cover for twenty five years. There is Jason and Lucia together. There is a pink sport bike, a yellow supercar, a flamingo wading past a speedboat, a man with a rifle outside a bank, and yes, an alligator. All of it bathed in those hot pinks, purples and sunset oranges. It looks like a postcard that fully intends to mug you, and I mean that as the highest compliment.

The setting: a whole state, not just a city

This is the bit I keep coming back to. GTA 6 is not just Vice City again. It is set in the state of Leonida, Rockstar’s take on modern Florida, and Vice City is the beating neon heart of it rather than the whole map.

The screenshots Rockstar put out show just how far the world stretches past the strip. There are the Leonida Keys, all causeways and turquoise shallows and seaplanes, the kind of place you lose an afternoon to before you remember you had a mission.

Then there is the wild side. Mount Kalaga National Park gives you the swampy, overgrown interior, the part of Florida the postcards leave out, and it is the kind of terrain I will happily disappear into on foot.

And for contrast there is Port Gellhorn, the grittier working town that reminds you Leonida is not all yachts and cocktails. Beaches to swamps to strip malls to docks, all in one map. That spread is the whole pitch.

The two leads: Jason and Lucia

Rockstar is building GTA 6 around two playable protagonists, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Lucia is the first female lead the mainline series has ever had, and the trailers frame the pair as a Bonnie and Clyde act, two people in over their heads, leaning on each other and a beaten up muscle car.

Around them, Rockstar has been quietly building out a cast, the kind of supporting players GTA lives or dies on. We have seen names like Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, Dre’Quan Priest, Real Dimez, Brian Heder and Raul Bautista trickle out through the trailers and the official site. How they all knot together is still being held close, which is exactly how Rockstar likes it.

My take, and what to play while you wait

Let me be straight with you. The date is the real news, the cover art is the hype, and the price is the thing everyone actually wants, which is the one thing we still do not have. So the sensible move is to bookmark 25 June and ignore every confident number you see until then.

In the meantime, this is the genre I live in, the open world that this game is going to swallow whole. If you want to scratch the itch right now, I have got you covered. There is twelve years of Grand Theft Auto on the channel to fall back into, and if you want a proper warm up list I put one together in what to play before GTA 6. For the deeper dive on the single player side, my everything we know about GTA 6 single player breakdown is the place to start.

And if you just want to sit with the hype for a minute, I took a look at the new trailer and screenshots in GTA 6 over on the channel.

Five months to go. Pre-orders in a week. The countdown is properly on now, and you can watch it tick over on the GTA 6 hub.
