GTA 6 is the most anticipated game on the planet, which also means it is the most lied about. Every week there is a new leak, a new rumour, a new fake feature list. So let me do something different here and stick to what Rockstar has actually confirmed about the single-player, kept rigidly separate from the noise. If I say it is confirmed, it is confirmed.
The date. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on the 19th of November 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. That is straight from Rockstar, after the game slipped from its earlier May 2026 target. There is no PC date announced, which matches how GTA 5 rolled out, so PC players will likely be waiting a while longer. Take that November date seriously, but with the usual caveat that this game has moved before.
The setting. We are going back to Vice City, Rockstar’s take on Miami, inside the wider fictional state of Leonida, which is their Florida. The trailers have shown off the Leonida Keys and a modern, sun-soaked, neon-soaked world that looks like a generational leap in detail. After years of GTA 5’s Los Santos, a return to Vice City in the modern day is a big deal.
The protagonists. This is the headline for the story. GTA 6 has two playable leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, and they are a couple. Lucia is the mainline series’ first non-optional female protagonist, which is genuinely historic for GTA. Rockstar’s own framing is that their bond is at the centre of the game, that Lucia’s fight for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and that Jason just wants an easy life while things keep getting harder. When an easy score goes wrong, the pair end up on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America. The press loves calling them Bonnie and Clyde, but that is shorthand, not Rockstar’s wording. What is confirmed is a loving criminal partnership at the heart of the story.
Single-player first. The launch is built around the single-player campaign. GTA Online is not expected at launch, though Rockstar has hinted the gap might be shorter than it was for GTA 5. So when you boot this up on day one, it is the story you are here for.
Now the important bit for a channel you are supposed to trust. Almost everything else you have read, the specific mechanics, the heist structure, character switching, social media systems, a rumoured third protagonist, all of it traces back to the big source-code leak from 2022 and none of it is officially confirmed. It might turn out true. It is still not fact. Treat any detailed feature list with heavy suspicion until Rockstar says it themselves.
If you want to see what Rockstar has actually shown us so far, I went through it all in I TOOK A LOOK AT THE NEW TRAILER AND SCREENSHOTS in GTA 6, so you can judge the footage for yourself rather than take my word for it.
What it means for us: this is shaping up to be the open-world event of the decade, and I will be all over it. I am already lining up the back catalogue and the coverage so we are ready the day it drops. Everything is being tracked over on the GTA 6 HQ, with a live countdown and the open-world runs to play while we wait. And the GTA that built a lot of this channel is still right here: WillyB’s GTA 5.
