Factions now expand and lose territory on their own, NPCs and mutants fight over locations whether you are watching or not, and the Zone genuinely feels alive in the way it always should have. They added a brutal new Master difficulty for people who want the full hardcore survival experience, and the combat got smarter, with enemies that actually use cover and lose track of you in tall grass. The other huge factor is mods. GSC released the official Zone Kit modding tools, and STALKER has always been a series where the community takes a good game and makes it extraordinary.
